I made a 3 days hike in the ‘Hertogenwald’ (2nd greatest forest of Belgium).
In this forest there is a relative great place (150 ha) where Red deer (Cervus elaphus) are kept in half freedom. The reserve itself is not open to the public, unless……. the local forester is your friend (yeah, I know, I’m a lucky man).
Early autumn, during the mating ritual, called the rut, mature stags (males) Red deers compete for the attentions of the hinds (females).
The stag has a very distinctive and loud "roar" during the rut and can be heard for miles around in the forest. The hinds are initially attracted to those stags that both roar most often and have the loudest roar call.
Males also use the roar call when competing with other males for females during the rut, and along with other forms of posturing and antler fights, is a method used by the stags to establish dominance.
This is the 2nd picture of the magical moment I had standing face to face with a roaring Red deer !

The photo seems three-dimensional. This is quite wonderful.
And the sharpness wonderful again.
Great compliment, you are an excellent photographer.
I like this version much more because the colours are firmer.
Greetings Elke
this is good as is the original. As a nature lover I tend to like natural colors. Very seldom do I play with the colors in my photos, just the light and contrasts. I guess you could put me down as a vote for the original. I should note that I could not tell that this was altered until I read your notes. -Archie
As Archie, I could not tell it had been altered. But since this is now up for vote, I guess you will get many more opinions as to your proficiency in colour manipulation

Its a fantastic image the detail and clarity are superb.
I think your work on replacing the yellow grasses is good, but it is not very natural looking when you compare it to the original shot,by that i mean if you look at the original it has the yellow rays of the sunlight on the tree leaves behind the Deer and on the Deer itself, also the sunlight from the grasses has reflected onto the underside of the antlers, this would not happen had the tint from the sunlight been green!
Superb capture though.................
