A Rainy Evening in Bruges

I find Bruges enchanting in the mists or in sunshine.
But there is simply another level of enchantment at twilight.
Add rain to the matrix, and Bruges' allure becomes all the more irresistible.

The location is the Cross of Burgundy Court. A cozy restaurant at the right
beckons the romantically inclined with its view overlooking one of Bruges' canals.
The softly lighted stone bridge over the canal adds a certain charm.

Shall we make it a long evening?

From your portfolio displayed in FC, this photo belongs to my favorites, Steve. The atmoshphere and the charisma it radiates is difficult to describe, as I am afraid I am not only running out of words but that I even could destroy this incredible atmosphere when using the wrong words. But you already have written mainly everything important in your short introduction. The atmosphere this rainy twilight moment creates is pure magic. I am not overly romantic, but in this situation even I can´t help but looking misty-eyed into the scenery with a heartbreaking, deep-drawn sigh. Now, imagine a fond couple under an umbrella, standing exactly where the photographer had stood, and enjoying together this scenery… This is material Hollywood-movies are made of :-). But “theater of the mind” wouldn´t be what it is, if only one train of thought was allowed. Before I´ll become too romantically absorbed, I´ll better choose the bifurcation into the direction of murder mystery :-). The scenery fits perfectly in those old British crime-movies like “Miss Marple” or “The Avengers” (with Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg). The German title, by the way, is far more charming than the English title is. It is “Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone”. For “Miss Marple” your photo maybe is too colored, as these movies have been filmed in b/w. But the scenery is perfect for the movies of the Avengers (I am talking only about the seasons with Diana Rigg + Patrick McNee! Only those have become cult figures in Germany), starting from season 5, when they finally were aired in color. I even can visualize Mr. Steed, walking in his elegant British clothes including his bowler hat and his walking-stick umbrella together with Mrs. Peel, dressed in her avant-garde fashion clothes, through the rain. Both are looking at each other with these incomparable smiles in a mixture of affection, mockery and British humor. Ah – Steve – the effect your photo has on me is unbelievable. I feel like I just have experienced a time warp and have been catapulted in a time somewhere in the midst of the 1960th ……

what an interesting picture. Funny is the sun umbrella amongst the rainy mood the picture show us. I like it.

Haven't been there yet. But the picture and your comment is telling exactly the story of what I would imagine Burges looks like.
    TOP!

Enchanting, myterious, romantic, somewhat "medieval", the juxtaposed warm and cold lights make the pic!

very "old-world", and very "romantically gemütlich", if you know what i mean ; )… it's all in your text already! the coziness of a rainy evening spent inside of those reliable and deliciously "old-fashioned" buildings – a nostalgic feeling, a memory, expressed in the pouring rain (sound imagined!) and caressing warmth of the night lights… greetings, sabine.
