Chocolat - Winter Light in the Namib Dunes (Swakopmund)
Winter Light in the late afternoon is really special in this part of the world. Personally the dunes outside Swakopmund are much more sensual and beautiful then the harsh red dunes further south at Sossusvlei. In the winter months when the fog rolls in from the cold Atlantic ocean the skies turn a cold blue grey tone and in this occasion I managed to capture a beautiful contrast of the golden yellow light of the dunes against the cool blue sky. The foreground dunes were thrown into the shadows of the late afternoon already but the small amount of light still creates interest in the fore and leads the eye to the layers of dunes above. One of my all time favourite dune shots.

Die starken Kontraste, das Wenige an Farbe, das dieses neutrale Winterlicht spendet, die feinen vom Wind geschaffenen Strukturen im Sand machen aus diesem Bild - wie du schon geschrieben hast, etwas ganz Besonderes. Nun versteh ich die Wüste an der Küste noch ganz anders, als wir sie gesehen haben, als wir dort waren....
Das ist der Vorteil desjenigen, der nicht nur 'Momente' einfangen kann....
