A pixel-based image, sometimes called a raster graphic or a bitmap, is made up of tiny squares or dots known as pixels. A pixel (pixel-element) is the smallest modifiable component of a pixel-based image. Pixel-based pictures may be saved in a variety of file formats including jpeg, png, gif, tiff, and psd. Pixel-based pictures are resolution dependent and can not be enlarged without degradation in quality. The number of pixels per inch (ppi) is the usual measure of resolution. The greater the number of pixels per inch, the higher-quality the picture will be and the larger the file size will grow. Each pixel in an image has a position on the document and an RGB value. We can retouch and modify images in a variety of different ways by manipulating RGB values and positions of various pixels with a pixel editing program such as Adobe Photoshop. Pixel-based digital photographs, as well as most images on a web page, are examples of this.
