Sprinter and Sludge Barge

In this late morning view, from Astoria Park along the East River in Queens, a Boston-bound Amtrak
Northeast Regional train, with Siemens ACS-64 “Sprinter” electric locomotive No. 625 on the point,
has just crossed the soaring main span (*) of the Hell Gate Bridge over the East River and continues
along the bridge system’s high viaduct on Wards and Randall’s Islands toward the Bronx.

In the foreground, the sludge barge Udalls Cove is docked at the Wards Island Wastewater Treatment Plant.
