Bee Royale

A uniquely colored bee? With metallic powder blue colored abdomen. This is only the second time I have seen such an insect. It can hover and dart swiftly from one point to another. Difficult to photograph because of its erratic nature. When I had a chance to make a shot, I did it hurriedly. Hence, not so artistic shot. However, to me this is a rare picture because this is the only one I managed to have in two sightings of this insect. I think this is a bee because of similarity in antannae structure. Definately this would not be a fly because its antennae is different. What makes it more of a bee is that it forages in flowers where bees normally gahter nectar.... Might be a new species of something???

I confirmed it. It's a wild blue banded bee. Mostly found in Australia. I don't know however if this was introduced here in the Philippines or there are really this types of bee natively growing here. Because this is the first time I see them.

John and Bill, thanks for taking a look. I'll definately follow your idea John. I'll do send the image to one of my friends in the universities here and ask what is it... :)

    An absolute brilliant shot Alex!!!
The subject is most probably a wild bee.
What I do when I have photographed an unknown insect, I e-mail it to a group of expert at the university.
In no time at all you will have the answer.
If it is rare, they normally as if they can add it to their website. Do let us know the result!
    Greetings from Australia.
