Die Flamingos sind zurück (in NRW) / The flamingoes are back (in NRW)

Die Flamingos sind wieder zum Brüten im Zwillbrocker Venn (NRW) eingetroffen (27.3.2024). Dies ist die nördlichste Flamingokolonie Europas und besteht größtenteils (wenn nicht ausschließlich) aus Flamingos, die aus Zoos und Privatbesitzern geflohen sind. Dementsprechend sind sie ein eher gemischter Haufen. Leider sind sie auf ihrer Insel ziemlich weit von den beiden Beobachtungshütten entfernt, die strategisch rund um das Venn platziert sind, so dass lange Teleobjektive erforderlich sind, und selbst dann ... Aber Flamingos hier in Deutschland zu fotografieren, anstatt nach Südfrankreich reisen zu müssen, ist ein wahrer Genuss.

The flamingoes have arrived again to breed at the Zwillbrocker Venn (NRW). This is the northernmost colony of flamingoes in Europe and consists largely (if not exclusively) of flamingoes who escaped from zoos and private owners. Consequently, they are a rather mixed bunch. Unfortunately, on their island they are rather far away from the two observation huts strategically placed around the venn, so long telelenses are a requirement, and even then ... Yet, being able to photograph flamingoes here in Germany rather than having to travel to the south of France is quite a treat.
