Dying out

This sign represents the modern history of Route66. All the road attractions, businesses and little towns along the mother road, are dying out.
"Financed" by Alpohonse "Al" Capone the road was an important getaway for illigal activities. It turned then into the main road of America, connecting Chicago, Illinois to L.A., California through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Route 66 became later the best opportunity for road trips, when families started having a bit more money and free time.
At that time the road was full of attractions and every little town tried to offer something to invite drivers to stop during the long trip.
Route 66 doesn't exist anymore. It was replaced by other highways or Interstates in other parts, and all the communities are slowly disappearing due to the lack of job opportunities. Only ghosts of the old gas stations, museums, theaters, motels, clubs, giant objects and colorful diners and cafés still survive.
This sign depicts the sad destiny of the mother road.
