While the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) was persecuted by humans in the 19th century, today it is the EU's hygiene regulations that are causing problems for the birds.
Since EU regulations stipulate,
that animal carcasses must be removed immediately from pastures in the Mediterranean region,
vultures are suffering from a lack of food.

dass Tierkadaver sofort von den Weiden im Mittelmeerraum entfernt werden müssen,
leiden die Geier unter Nahrungsmangel.
