Weight: Fallow deer (male) 53 - 110 kg, fallow deer (female) 35 - 55 kg
Food:
Grasses, herbs, shoots and buds, leaves, needles, bark, grain, potatoes, turnips, chestnuts, acorns, beechnuts. Occasionally peels the bark from maple and ash trees.

Enemies: lynx, wolf, birds of prey

The fallow deer was extinct in Central Europe
until the Romans introduced it as a sacrificial animal around 2000 years ago.
It was a valuable animal for the nobility in the Middle Ages,
especially if it was a white animal.

In the wild, fallow deer are very shy and distrustful.
It is almost impossible to approach them unnoticed, as they can smell and hear very well.
They are able to recognize standing humans.

Fallow deer can live to be over 30 years old, in the wild not older than 20 years.

Gewicht: Damhirsch 53 - 110 kg, Damtier 35 - 55 kg
Nahrung:
Gräser, Kräuter, Triebe und Knospen, Blätter, Nadeln, Rinde, Getreide, Kartoffeln, Rüben, Kastanien, Eicheln, Bucheckern. Gelegentlich schält es die Rinde von Ahorn und Esche.

Feinde: Luchs, Wolf, Greifvögel

In Mitteleuropa war das Damwild ausgestorben
bis die Römer es vor ca 2000 Jahren als Opfertier eingeführten.
Für den Adel war es im Mittelalter eine Kostbarkeit,
besonders wenn es sich um weiße Tiere handelte.

In freier Wildbahn sind die Damhirsche sehr scheu und misstrauisch.
Ihnen kann man sich kaum unbemerkt nähern da sie sehr gut riechen und hören können.
Sie sind in der Lage stillstehende Menschen zu erkennen.

Damwild kann über 30 Jahre alt werden, in freier Wildbahn nicht älter als 20 Jahre
