Fresh from the Warm, Soapy Scrubby Rollers with a Tummy Full of Diesel

Amtrak diesel-electric locomotive No. 43, a GE Genesis P42DC, is well-scrubbed after being run through the warm, soapy, scrubby-rollers, well-nourished with diesel fuel, turned in the right direction, and ready for its next assignment as it rumbles, gleaming brightly in the sunlight of late afternoon, past K Tower at Washington's Union Station.

K Tower controls the train activity in the wide throat of Union Station, The dense pattern of high-voltage catenary identifies this complex as the origination point for Amtrak's electrified high-speed Northeast Corridor trains to New York, Boston, and intermediate points. Beyond the catenary, in telephoto-compressed perspective, can be seen some of the new construction in Washington's revitalized NoMa (North of Massachussetts Avenue) area. (*)

On one of the station's through tracks, the diesel will take over a southbound train from its ACS-64 Sprinter-class
high-speed electric locomotive, for the continuation of its journey, as electric service ends at Washington.

The scene, shot on a late afternoon last June with a Zeiss Milvus ZE 135mm
f/2 APO Sonnar T* lens on a Canon 6D, makes its first appearance today.
