Brilliant capture, Lawson, with the lonely reader being the heart of the picture and the place looking so welcoming for rest and relaxation. Pity all that is spoiled by the staines of disgusting graffiti....
    best regards alexander

when the snake was driven out of eden, god had hoped it would learn a lesson from his admittedly rather harsh punishment… but snakes, you know, are a stubborn bunch. all the expelled one did was wail and rage and mourn the loss of his legs. to fully understand this, you must know that in eden THE SNAKE was a much famed long-distance runner. he had won countless paradisal awards. to deprive him of his well-trained legs and make him wiggle along on six-pack belly abs – an outrages insult and humiliation! if THE CREATOR didn't have an archenemy before, now he did! outside eden the snake became an accomplished slitherer, and yet, he never quite got over the involuntary loss of his legs. obsessed with running, as he still was, he intended to go back one day and ask THE CREATOR, his nemesis, for a head-to-head race. so had he learned his lesson?? no speaking with a forked tongue, no lurking in the vicinity of trees of knowledge, no tempting of eden's small-brained population? OF COURSE NOT! he was just as fond of competition as always, he liked plotting, play, paralympics and progress… and just recently he'd discovered a new mania: mundane running shoes!! he was crazy about them!! he took to hanging out at the park, near the fountain – it had a tree of knowledge, too! –, where he and a new found country pal would patiently coil under the benches and wait, in hope of getting a glimpse of the latest running shoe collections. runners frequented the place and liked to sit down on the benches on a quick stop or do their warm-up stretches against the tree. THE SNAKE was fascinated with them, envious even. one day, he imagined, he would be standing at the gates of heaven in a pair of custom made nikes and challenge his punisher to a run! HOW? WITHOUT LEGS??? ah, he was a savvy one! he would cross that bridge when he came to it! "just do it!" had become his favorite motto… lesson learned? nooo…

    greetings, sabine.

a great story telling image with so much to see .... I like the quiet mood with the old gent reading, the fountain still, the leaves on the ground .... and the supporting shapes for the benches are especially intriguing !!!
    greetings, Adele
