The castle of Leros was built during the Byzantine period when the island enjoyed a considerable wealth. In 1204 passed in Venetians hands enjoying again a very blissful period of commercial wealth till the beginning of 8th century when the Ottomans conquered the island. In the castle there is a byzantine church with an old icon of Virgin Mary and a great museam covering the history of the island.

Impressing castle. Excellent scenery. Well developed. But what has happend on the left edge of the photo. On my monitor I see is a blue haze..?KR MB
