It’s breeding time!

The Eurasian Coot likes to built its nest of dead reeds near the riparian vegetation on freshwater lakes.

A female lays usually 5 to 10 eggs, sometimes 2 or 3 times per season. Both male and female breed on the nest (23 to 25 days).

Usually only a few young survive because they are frequent prey for birds such as herons and gulls.
