Luang Prabang National Museum

The Royal Palace (official name "Haw Kham") in Luang Prabang was built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. The site for the palace was chosen so that official visitors to Luang Prabang could disembark from their river voyages directly below the palace and be received there. After the death of King Sisavang Vong, the crown Prince Savang Vatthana and his family were the last to occupy the grounds. In 1975, the monarchy was overthrown by the communists and the Royal Family were taken to re-education camps. The palace was then converted into a national museum.

Von außen wirklich ein schönes Fotomotiv. Das Innere des Gebäudes, d.h. den Besuch des Museums kann man sich m.E. allerdings sparen.
Nicht die ganze königliche Familie wurde in ein Lager gesteckt oder umgebracht. Eine prinzessin hatte einen Franzosen geheiratet und lebte in Paris. Weil man diplomatische Verwicklungen scheute wurde ihre Villa in Luang Prabang nicht beschlagnahmt und verstaatlicht. Als ich zum erstenmal in Luang Prabang war gab es dort noch kein Hotel oder Guesthaus und da ich auf Einladung der Regierung in Laos war konnte ich in dieser Villa der Prinzessin wohnen, sehr stilvoll und mit Antiqutäten ausgestattet. Ein Abend auf dem Balkon war Kolonialzeit pur. Ich habe das Gebäude 2022 noch mal gesucht, heute ist es ein kleines Hotel und heißt Villa Santi.

  Die Villa kenn ich sehr gut und sie war für meine Frau und mich auch die Unterkunft für mehrere Aufenthalte in Luang Prabang (1989, 1997 und 2001). Meine Bilder von meiner ersten Reise sind noch in der Schublade und noch nicht gescannt, Gruß Wolfgang
