Michigan | Old Mackinac Point |
Constructed 1892 as an extension of a fog signal, the lighthouse remained in operation until 1957,
when "Mighty Mac", the Mackinac Bridge was opened and the light no longer necessary.
It was named "Mackinac Point" due to its location at the junction of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
Its light came from a fourth order fresnel lens and was visible for about 14 nautical miles (appr. 26 kilometers).

Lovely composition and colors.I love how the white fence leads the eye toward the "Mighty Mac" but invites it to linger on details along the way, including the fire hydrant whose red coordinates so attractively with the red roof. What a day for visibility, too.Compliments,

Ich finde auch, dass dieses Land sehr "fotogen" ist - trotz Trump.
