Über die Erbauer von Teothiuacan ist bisher nichts bekannt. Der Bau begann um 300 v. Chr. Auf ihrem Höhepunkt (ungefähr 500 bis 800 n Chr.) umfasste sie über 20 km² und hatte eine Einwohnerschaft von etwa 150.000 bis 200.000 Menschen.
Teotihuacán - „Der Ort wo man zu Gott wird“ stammt von den Atzteken, welche diese Stätte bei ihrer Ansiedlung in der Region verlassen vorfanden.

The early history of Teotihuacán is quite mysterious, and the origin of its founders is debated. The earliest buildings at Teotihuacán date to about 200 BC. The city reached its zenith between 150 and 450 CE. At its height the city covered over 20 km² and probably housed a population of 150,000 -250,000 people.
