Traditional table setting of Iranian Spring Celebration, Nowruz.

Haft-Seen , or the seven 'S's is a traditional table setting of Persian New Year which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed

The Haft-Seen items are:

"sabzeh" - wheat, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolizing rebirth
"samanu" - a sweet pudding made from wheat germ - symbolizing affluence
"senjed" - the dried fruit of the oleaster tree - symbolizing love
"sir" - garlic - symbolizing medicine
"sib" - apples - symbolizing beauty and health
"somaq" - sumac berries - symbolizing (the color of) sunrise
"serkeh" - vinegar - symbolizing age and patience.

I shot the pictures of a Street Haft-seen near our house. There are lots of them set on different squares and shopping centers and ....
I will upload mine too soon , on 21st March ;-)

so much to see and learn from this beautiful, colorful and eye-catching collage! and what a great interesting and happy tradition, sepideh! love how all the items are on display in their own boxes – makes them look twice as precious and divine that way! i particularly like your shot of the box overflowing with apples – what a great image of beauty, health and life indeed! have to admit, though, that sweet-toothed me is magically drawn to the box right next to it, too: what beautiful pastel-colored candy (?)! ; ))) spring greetings from a sunny northern germany! and my best wishes for your soon-to-come persian new-year's celebrations! sabine

Your composition and text are very interesting. About the list of products it's a little bit like in Provence in south of France, where they have 13 products for Christmas and the end of year, in december.

But your new year on 21 march, remembers that Roman Empire had march as beginning the year and this explains the name of a month like september = 7th month of the year in this time, or october = the 8th month ...

Congratulations Sepideh and nice New Year ... very close now.
