Train-Fan in the Making

His shirt may be emblazoned with jet planes, but clearly he is a train-fan in the making, showing no unease over the loudness of the heavy freight train that's been rumbling past the Point of Rocks station (*), where two main lines of the CSX converge.

The eastbound freight has come off the high speed double-track mainline into the wye at the west end of the station and will make its way to Baltimore along the Patapsco Valley route of the historic Old Main Line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (now CSX).

The tracks at the left belong to the Metropolitan Branch, also originally B&O. They serve the commuter trains of the MARC system’s Brunswick Line, Amtrak’s Capitol Limited from Washington to Chicago, also CSX freight traffic.
