A scene like thousand years ago
Walking around the historical town of Herat. Often get the feeling being in the pass thousand years ago.
The present is much different and scens like those will hardly come again after the last situation in Afghanistan. The city of Herat now is one of the scenes of local conflicts.

I was looking at this photo and I would've bet on it being a "modern" SRL picture with a filter on top of it.. then I read description and realised I've been completely fooled - it's a scan! :) Amazing how we now used modern technology and photo editing to create effects that used to be normal.... also, it's a great shot. There is a lot to see and the contrast between the man and the mountains on the horizon create a sense of depth.
