Alone Anole --- Anolis biporcatus Wiegmann.

Hier das Foto einer großen neotropischen grünen Anole (Anolis biporcatus), gemacht 2016 in der Nähe von Golfito, Costa Rica. Die Gattung Anolis ist ein tolles Beispiel der adaptiven Radiation (Wie bei den Darwin Finken), da es von ihnen mehr als 400 Arten gibt, die sich alle an leicht unterschiedliche Umgebungen angepasst haben. Naja,… zumindest dachte man das lange. Inzwischen kann man durch Genetik jedoch beweisen, dass viele ähnliche Echsen fälschlicherweise zu einer Gattung zusammengefasst wurden. Aber auch dieser Befund wird schon wieder heftig diskutiert. Wenn man so will, ist diese Gattung also ein aktiver Schauplatz der Biologie, in der sich immer noch sehr viel Verändert. Wissenschaft zum Anfassen!

Here the picture of a giant green anole (Anolis biporcatus), snapped 2016 in Golfito, Costa Rica. The genus Anolis is one of the biggest examples of adaptive radiation (like e.g. the Darwin finches). This means that there are more then 400 species that are also pretty similar yet adapted to slightly different environments. Well… at least this was state of the art for a long time. Now, in the era of genetic science, we are able to see that there are a lot of lizards in this genus that do not belong there. However, also this opinion is already critically discussed again. So, you could say that this genus is still a place of taxonomic improvements and rapid changes. A nice example of active science!
