Alone with the Oryx in the Namib

Alone in the desert ... this is one of my all time favourite photographs. I took this while lying flat on the ground photographing Dune 45 in the Tsauchab Valley (near Sossusvlei). I had my wide angle lens on my camera to capture the dune, but as I looked to my left towards the early morning sun, I saw this Oryx watching me from a distance. I quickly changed my lenses and used my 70-300mm to capture this images. The lighting was not ideal because I was shooting straight into the sun, but in fact the light was perfect as I managed to capture soft mountains in the background and the oryx in perfect silhouette. What I like most about this photograph is the solitude, the simplicity and the desaturated colours.
