Description of a Struggle - Jaroslav Róna

This little square in the middle of Prague's Dusni Street is what the city's famous native, writer Franz Kafka, probably saw each time he looked out of his window. The historic Jewish Quarter in Prague is where Kafka spent most of his life - and often features in his novels and short stories. But despite that, for years there was no permanent memorial to the man who changed the face of 20th century literature. But now, all that has changed.

I'm far from being an expert on the subject but I could venture to put forward the view that the slim and fragile figure of Kafka sitting on the shoulders and carried by a tall, robust but apparently unidentified or "anybody"man, could be interpreted-to my opinion-as individual weakness, impotence, dependence or even submission to superior forces of establisment and state power of which so frequent speaks in his pessimistic novels and against which was his perpetual struggle...Personally I like him despite his subdued view on life. Of course what I say may be rubbish or stupid, so please discard it!...
The photo, as always, great Lawson, and thanks for creating this nice debate amongst us.
    best regards alexander

Excellent composition. On the same diagonal are two couples, one that truly evokes the existential angst of Kafka, while the other, the real one, however, seems somewhat disoriented.
Truly a situation straight out of a Kafka novel.
    Best wishes,
    Carlo

“We are sinful not merely because we have eaten of the tree of knowledge, but also because we have not eaten of the tree of life.”.. KAFKA

"beschreibung eines kampfes" – one of the strangest kafka stories of all… even though i seem to be the only one to whom the statue doesn't really speak – no matter how hard i try, i don't feel kafka in it… –, i really appreciate its existence! finally a monument… i think he would have chuckled softly, the famous son of prague, before scuttling six-leggedly on to work… ; ) great shot, lawson! i like the "contextual symmetry" of the composition: two bronze protagonists vs. two of flesh and blood! ; )) greetings, sabine.
