Good Bye Fröttmaning ... Sunken Church ... Sunken Village ...

Fröttmaning was a small village near Munich, but it disappeared over the centuries and finally from 1950 had to give way, along with all its farms, to a refuse dump.

Now only the Church of the Holy Cross remains standing near the Allianz Arena.

In 2006 Timm Ulrichs created the art work »Sunken Village« some two hundred meters from the church. He built up at the foot of the mountain of rubbish an original-sized doppelgänger of the romanesque village church, which is partly dwarfed by earth – as a memorial to the sunken settlement.
