This photo shows an old lonely woman in Wimereux (Fr). During an extended weekend I saw her every day in front of the window when I went to the bakery in the morning. We greeted each other, apparently she lived all alone, every morning. Each time she gave me a look and waved at me. After a few days of the same ritual, I took my Leica QP to the bakery and made this portrait.

The story behind this photo is intriguing. And it depicts an authentically situation of life.The strongest part is the expression the old lady shows, but the viewer can also take note of the surrounding area she lives in. We don't no wether she feels lost or just has some entertainment looking out of the window.
Its a situation of a touching real-life story, written down with a camera.

A strong image, but one that would confront me with some problems. The image of the old lady inmidst the pretty large window represents in a certain sense the loneliness that drives her to the window every day (or is it perhaps just curiosity?). On the other hand, it’s this frame which gives me a few problems: First, the perspective creates a dynamic that leads away from the portrayed person, and second, the massive profiles have a certain dominance. Therefore, one could try to "intervene" a bit in the picture. Possible would be a rectification by image processing and/or a slightly different image cut, which takes away some of the massiveness of the beams (for example at the bottom). Or how about a square image format, in which the lady would find her place maybe in the lower left corner? But these are, of course, quite subjective estimations, which I give here. Every intervention is at the same time an intervention in the authenticity of the photo.Also in the form chosen by you it is a really touching picture - the portrait of an aged obviously lonely woman, for whom the window has literally become her window to the world.
