Chios is a biggish island with rich ancient history extending back to the third millenium BC. From 1304 to 1566 the island flourished under the Genoese occupation with ships and merchants crossing the entire Mediteranean.The Genoese built strong fortresses to protect the island from the pirates and thriving towns and villages have developped within the walls. Many of these villages remain intact till today with the locals moving through the narrow old streets carrying out their daily occupations like their old ancestors were doing.....
