Seine Nahrung besteht hauptsächlich aus Misteln.Mistelvögel haben ein spezielles Verdauungssystem, das sich an die schnelle Verdauung der weichen, klebrigen Mistelbeeren angepasst hat.Die Samen dieser Früchte laufen intakt durch das Verdauungssystem der Vögel und werden in klebrigen Strängen ausgeschieden, die an Ästen haften und dort keimen. Auf diese Weise wird Mistel von Baum zu Baum ausgebreitet und bietet den Arten, die darauf angewiesen sind, einen zusätzlichen Lebensraum zum Überleben.
