New Eddystone Rock (2)

a closer look from the other side shows the details of this small rocky island seemingly in the middle of nowhere ... this is the Behm Channel in Alaska on our last day on the ship.
Sunsets and blue skies are great to encounter on holidays - I was quite happy to see the rainy, cloudy, grey day with its mystic aura .... and took a lot of pictures :-)))
Eddystone Rock as actually a vulcano rising from the bottom of Behm Canal, about 260 m below sea level. The island stands to 72 m above sea level, giving the volcano a total height of over 300 m. While the portion of the volcano below sea level is somewhat cone-shaped, wave action over the millennia has eroded all the rock above sea level except the dense, spire-shaped volcanic plug.
