Samdrup Jongkhar the border town to India

This small frontier town is situated 18 kilometres from Deothang at the precise point where the mountains meet the plain.
After crossing the border into India it was a shock for us how all has changed, the mountains landscape into draggy lowlands, the kindness of the people, the tension in Indias Assam district, the highly armed eight checkpoints on the way 3 hours to Guwahati and so on. India is an amazing and beautiful country too but really not this part.

(The foto captured in April 2000 during my third tour in Bhutan the transnational highway from Paro in the west to Sandrup Jongkhar in eastern Bhutan the borderline to Asaam in India. Scanned with NIKON CoolScan V ED.)
