The Living Forest (324) : Gatekeeper
The Gatekeeper (also known as Hedge Brown) is a butterfly that prefers to live in a habitat where grasses grow in association with bushes, like woodland clearings or meadow margins.
This butterfly tends to rest always with its wings open, a benefit for photographers :-))
This way we can see very well the double pupils on its eyespots.
My shot shows a female specimen.
Dutch name : Oranje Zandoogje
German name : Rotbraunes Ochsenauge
Latin name : Pyronia tithonus
