The Lisbon tramway network is a real attraction and considered among, if not the best in Europe although the construction of Lisbon Metro and the expansion of bus system began the slow decline of the network. The most colorful survivors are the so called "Remodelado trams" representing a desire to combine tradition and modernization but ,in practical terms, to maintain a tram service capable to perform the dificult indulating route through the narrow streets of Alfama district and accomodate well to the steep inclines of the tracks. They may be slow and heavily loading but they are armed with the appropriate acceleration and good breaking to help descend the hills. Using these remodelado trams and especially the most famous No 28 is a very delightful way to reach the Alfama heights and admire the breathtaking view from up there.
