Koalas gehören zu den bedrohten Tierarten, stehen auf der roten Liste des Weltnaturschutzunion ICUN .Einige sagen es gibt noch 80000, andere sagen es gibt noch Rund 300000. Sie sind schwer zu zählen. Die verherrenden Waldbrände helfen auf jeden Fall nicht. Mit einer Spendenaktion werden jetzt Trinkwasserstationen errichtet und Aufzuchtsprogramme unterstützt. Weiterhin Zäune errichtet , damit die Koalas nicht auf die Strasse laufen können und überfahren werden.
Koalas sind Baumbewohner und überwiegend nachtaktiv. Sie halten sich nur ungern am Boden auf und bewegen sich dann auf allen vieren vorwärts. Um Energie zu sparen, schlafen sie bis zu 20 Stunden am Tag .Koalas ernähren sich fast ausschließlich von Blättern und Rinde sowie Früchten ganz bestimmter Eukalyptusarten. In ganz Australien nutzen sie nur etwa 70 der über 500 bekannten Eukalyptusarten.

Furthermore fences are erected so that the koalas cannot run onto the street and get run over.Koalas are tree dwellers and mostly nocturnal. They are reluctant to stay on the ground and then move forward on all fours. To save energy, they sleep up to 20 hours a day. Koalas feed almost exclusively on leaves and bark as well as fruits of certain types of eucalyptus. Throughout Australia, they only use about 70 of the more than 500 known types of eucalyptus.
