Waiting for her train...

A spot in the warming sun on this wintry afternoon at the
Metro-North Railroad's 125th Street Station in Harlem, NYC.

Whatever her destination, she'll not have long to wait at this busy first stop after
Grand Central Terminal for outbound trains to points in New York and Connecticut.

Twenty-eight blocks south of here at 97th Street, the four tracks of the Metro-North,
after running through the long tunnel under Park Avenue from GCT (at 42nd Street),
emerge into daylight to climb the ramp onto the viaduct leading to this station and beyond.

Very good shot, Steve, and what the display says wakes memories of the old NYC and NH.
Wasn´t it in Harmon that NYC changed locos from electric to steam back in the fifties and earlier? Classes J3 and the outstanding Niagaras with Empire State Express and all the other trains come to mind, you name them!

Thank you, Tom! And, yes, you are absolutely correct about the activities at Harmon. Not only swapping massive box cab electrics for steam on outbound trains, but later, those handsome gray and white "Lightning Stripe" diesels. What a thrill it had to be for train photogs back then!
Also, as you mentioned the NH, you might be interested to know that its striking red, black and white livery lives on, on some of the Metro North GE P32 Dual-Mode locos that call at this station.
      Alles gute,
      Steve

Thanks for your reply, Steve, very informative.
As a steam addict, as you may know, I forgot the later diesel times on the NYC, changing engines further on from electrics to diesel at Harmon station.
Sometimes I wish to draw back time and be able to witness again the action there!
And, pity, even these archaich electrics would´ve deserved more attendance by the photographers! Very few pictures!
But now - it´s really a boon to learn that the NH livery lives on. I always found it so - well, modern, ahaed of it´s time, and that´s what it really deserved!
Have a good time, enjoy your retirement, though it´s dull and grey outside!
      Tom

Thanks, Tom. Your enthusiasm for the NH livery prompted me to put up a photo from the same afternoon of a GE P32 in those legacy colors. Wish I could have found a "cleaner" example for you!
