Whiskey bedeutet soviel wie "Wasser des Lebens" und leitet sich aus dem schottisch-gälischen ab.

Außerdem unterscheidet man anhand der Schreibweise des Wortes, die Herkunft des Wässerchens:

Whisky = schottisch oder kanadisch
Whiskey = irisch oder amerikanisch

Das mal zur groben Einteilung :D
Es gibt aber natürlich auch andere Länder, die noch "Whisky" herstellen.
(Klein- und Mittelbetriebe in Europa, aber z.B. auch in Japan)
