Working elephant Lug Gop
A working elephant named Lug Gop (strange name translated "daughter of a frog") with its mahout in the Taweechai Elephant Camp in Kanchanaburi province. The mahout was a migrant comming from the nearby border of Burma finding a shelter on the Thai side and working mostly for tourist rides or in the jungle.
Thailand is known for its elephant rescue volunteer work and has a number of elephant sanctuaries. Located around the city of Kanchanaburi, for example, different projects have been established over many years to provide a safe environment for the gentle giants.
