Interesting question.
And what a strange and interesting language is Finnish.
My answer is in English, as usual - and hopefully you can translate it.
When you say "courtyard" - I think you mean "field" or "garden".
Hethpool is a tiny hamlet ; (a hamlet is smaller than a village) ; and in one of the most remote valleys in northumberland.
That line of picturesque houses were built by the landowner in the 1920's , I think - to house workers on the estate.
They are described as "Arts and craft Style".
That is to say - they are deliberately "retro" /rustic.
I like them a lot.
We walked along a footpath , across moor-like country - and up the track that you can see in this photo - where the track meets the road.
The cottages stand alongside the narrow road which runs up past the Whitehall - and further up the valley.
It is open to walkers, but not to cars.
In general - in England - people walk along both footpaths (tracks) and roads. The paths can go along the edge of fields, or through fields. You need access to ordnance survey maps - to see these paths.
So - that is my reply.
Mark
Thank you Mark for your answer. In Finnland we hawe "Every mans rights" whitch mean that you can walk everywhere outside the rouds and paths, but not cultivation are and too near the houses. Here you must honoret the nature, you can´t cut the trees and disturb birds nesting-time, but you can pick up the berryes.
Here in England - only on the higher land - on the moors above the cultivated fields - is there a theoretical/notional "right to roam" , (comprehensive access).

Saako noilla alueilla liikkua vapaasti, kunnioittaen pihapiirejä, vai saaka liikkua aiostaan teitä pitkin?
