Der 11. Juli 2023 war wohl der Tag in meinem Leben, an dem ich wohl die meisten historischen Stätten bewundern durfte. Rom eben ;-)
Eine davon war das Augustusforum. Es ist das zweite der vier Kaiserforen in Rom und eine Erweiterung des Forum Romanum. Es wurde im Jahre 2 v. Chr. eingeweiht und war etwa 125 Meter lang und 118 Meter breit. Leider kann man sich heute nur noch einen sehr unvollständigen Eindruck von der beeindruckenden Platzanlage machen. Zu sehen ist nur noch der hintere Teil des Forums mit dem Podium und den Überresten des Mars-Ultor-Tempels. Der gesamte vordere Teil wurde unter Mussolini mit der Via dei Fori Imperiali überbaut - ohne vorhergehende archäologische Untersuchung.

One of them was the Forum of Augustus. It is the second of the four imperial forums in Rome and an extension of the Roman Forum. It was inaugurated in 2 BC and was around 125 metres long and 118 metres wide. Unfortunately, today you can only get a very incomplete impression of the impressive square. Only the rear part of the forum with the podium and the remains of the Temple of Mars Ultor can still be seen. The entire front section was built over with the Via dei Fori Imperiali under Mussolini - without any prior archaeological investigation.
