The Schipperke is a dog that thinks that he (she) is the biggest dog around. They don't back for any danger. Which can be bad some times. There is always a bigger dog around and stronger. My first impression was that this must be a spitz but that seems to be wrong. But if you place a Schipperke and a Norwegian Elkhound side by side they are neraly the same dog. But the Norwegian is a spitz. They really don't exept strangers the first time they meet. So it can take some time before they accept a new person. Lady diden't accept my mother for a long time but suddenly she was ok and they were great buddies. They bark a lot. This can sometimes be annoying. They are very loyal.

Thank you for your explanation. When I first looked at your photos I did not know anything about Schipperkes.
The only thing that came to my mind then was that they looked very much like a "Spitz" only smaller.
I fully understand that you have this affection for these dogs, they are indeed very lovely. In particular when they are still little!

Dear Nadine - A Schipperke is a guarddog and it guards everything that is in the house. And I mean everything, people, carpets, tables .... Yes you probably understand. So Ickx is just gurading the sofa Eva is sitting on and watching so no one comes in via the front door. The sleeping dog is Lady and she is just resting. She know Ickx is guarding so she is safe. The picture is taken in a hotel in Silkesborg in Denmark. Eva by the way is so used to having her photo taken so she dosen't know that I am there.

I wonder what your dog is seeing there!
I also like the way your wife is absorbed in reading the newspaper, I wonder if she noticed that she was being photographed :-)
