Zwergsonnentaue kommen in der Natur in Australien vor. Durch die Ausbildung von Brutschuppen verfügen fast alle Vertreter der Gruppe über eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit zur Fortpflanzung. Eingeleitet wird deren Bildung durch eine abnehmende Tageslänge. Brutschuppen lösen sich leicht von der Pflanze. Am Naturstandort reicht dazu Regen aus. Bei Kulturpflanzen müssen sie von Hand gelöst und ausgesät werden.

The image stack shows pygmy sundews of the species Drosera roseana. They have produced gemmae. Gemmae are modified leaves and typical for nearly all pygmy sundew species. They are, in addition to a reproduction by seeds, a second way of these plants to reproduce themselves. Their production is triggered by a decreasing day length. They are easily separated from the plant by rain. If the plants are kept as houseplants, the gemmae have to be collected and planted manually.
