il gobbo

the hunchback

The hunchback, also known as "O Scartellato", is a popular figure in the Neapolitan tradition, it is said to bring good luck if you touch the hump. It is seen as a kind of walking amulet. Less known is that, in the Neapolitan tradition, the "scartellato" itself is a figure of good luck, a positive character, bearer of wealth and happiness, and has its own precise iconography: black cylinder and jacket, red bow tie and white shirt.
